Jets Claim WR Butler Off Waivers From Bucs, Release WR Ross

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) — The New York Jets have claimed wide receiver Jeremy Butler off waivers from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and released wide receiver/kick returner Jeremy Ross.

Butler was signed by Baltimore as an undrafted free agent out of Tennessee-Martin in 2014. He spent his rookie season on injured reserve with a shoulder injury, and had 31 catches for 363 yards last season for the Ravens.

Butler finished second in the NFL this summer with 16 preseason catches, but was among Baltimore's final cuts. He was signed to Tampa Bay's practice squad last month and promoted to the active roster last week, but was waived on Sunday.

Ross was re-signed by the Jets on Sept. 29 after being waived following training camp. Filling in for the injured Jalin Marshall, Ross returned two kickoffs for 52 yards and had six fair catches on punts in two games.

It's the second time in recent weeks the Jets have claimed a pass catcher who was waived by Tampa Bay. On Sept. 26, they added tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins.
