Jets CB Dee Milliner Named AFC Defensive Rookie Of The Month

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Jets cornerback Dee Milliner has been named the AFC Defensive Rookie of the Month for December.

The 2013 first-round pick (ninth overall) struggled mightily at times this season, but he also showed some promise. He finished his rookie campaign strong, picking off two passes and defending five others in Gang Green's finale in Miami. He also recorded four tackles.

The 22-year-old was named AFC Defensive Player of the Week for his stellar performance.

Milliner was benched three times in 2013 and didn't have his first interception until Week 16 against the Browns.

In November, defensive end Sheldon Richardson -- who was drafted four picks behind Milliner -- was named the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Month.

The Alabama product played 13 games in 2013, missing three games due to a hamstring injury. He finished the season with 56 tackles, three interceptions and 17 passes defended.
