Man In New Jersey Dies Of Lassa Fever After Returning From Liberia

TRENTON, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- Federal officials in New Jersey say a man who returned to the United States last week from West Africa has died from Lassa Fever.

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention said the man flew back from Liberia on May 17, became critically ill and died Monday night.

Lassa Fever is an infectious disease that is not spread through casual contact.

But as a precaution, the CDC seeks anyone who had direct contact with the patient, including health workers in New Jersey and passengers on his recent flight from Morocco.
