11,000 Customers Lose Power In Jersey City

JERSEY CITY, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- An estimated 11,000 customers lost power in Jersey City late Monday night.

PSE&G said the outage happened at 10 p.m., and it was due to an equipment failure. A spokeswoman could not elaborate.

Twitter user SammySimSim posted video showing power out from Columbus Drive all the way to what appeared to be Hamilton Park on one end and Grand Street on the other.

Crews were working to restore power late Monday night and expected it to be restored within the hour as of 10:43 p.m.

The number of customers without power had been reduced to 8,000 by just after 11 p.m.
