Jersey City Man Charged With Stabbing Mother-In-Law To Death, Seriously Injuring Wife

JERSEY CITY, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A Jersey City man is accused of fatally stabbing his mother-in-law and critically injuring his wife during a domestic dispute.

Police were called to the family's home on Winfield Avenue around 12:30 p.m. Friday.

Authorities said after the stabbing, the man fled in a minivan. He was captured by state police after he crashed the vehicle near Exit 11 on the New Jersey Turnpike in Woodbridge Township.

The man's mother-in-law, an 82-year-old woman, died early Saturday. Her 48-year-old daughter was upgraded from critical to stable condition.

The 53-year-old man was charged with murder, attempted homicide, weapons offenses and two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Authorities have not said what sparked the stabbings or released the names of the three people.
