Fire Severely Damages Five Homes In Jersey City

JERSEY CITY, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- Some residents have been displaced after a fire that was put out Thursday night rekindled early Friday morning, severely damaging five homes in Jersey City.

The initial blaze broke out at a vacant home on Forrest Street around 8 p.m. Thursday. The fire spread to other houses, including two that were occupied.

The fire was put out around midnight, but the flames rekindled inside one of the houses around 6 a.m. Friday and spread again to adjacent homes.

Video from the scene showed heavy flames and smoke pouring from the roof and upper floors of the buildings.

One firefighter is being treated for burns to his neck.
