Ferry Strikes Pier In Jersey City, 17 Injured

JERSEY CITY, N.J. (CBSNewYork)-- A passenger ferry struck a pier in Jersey City Saturday evening, injuring several people.

Seventeen passengers were injured with bumps and bruises after the ferry, operated by New York Waterway, made a hard landing at the pier at 30 Hudson Street around 7:15 p.m. It was coming from the World Financial Center.

Most of the injuries appeared minor, however, three individuals were removed on stretchers.

Five of the 17 passengers were transported to Christ Hospital and the other 12 went to the Jersey City Medical Center-Barnabas Health, Jersey City Spokeswoman Jennifer Morrill said.

The U.S. Coast Guard is handling the investigation.
