Man Found Dead In Jersey City Seniors' Building Fire

JERSEY CITY, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- A man was found dead Monday afternoon inside a seniors' building in Jersey City.

The fire broke out shortly after 4 p.m. in the building at 91 Sip Ave., Jersey City officials said. The fire started in the 60-year-old man's fifth-floor apartment and was confined to the unit, officials said.

Firefighters arrived on the scene within five minutes of being called, but the man had already died when they arrived, officials said.

The fire was brought under control in 20 minutes, officials said.

The name of the victim has been withheld pending family notification.

No one else was injured, and other residents were allowed to return to their apartments, officials said.

The cause of the fire was under investigation late Monday.
