Officials: NYPD Officer Shoots Dog, U.S. Marshal During Warrant Raid In NJ

JERSEY CITY, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- An NYPD officer working with the U.S. Marshals opened fire on a pit bull that was attacking them, killing the dog and hitting a teammate, authorities said.

A Deputy U.S. Marshal was attacked by the dog Thursday morning while serving a warrant at around 6:30 a.m. along Bayview Avenue in Jersey City.

The officer fired five shots, killing the dog and striking a U.S. Marshal in the foot, according to the NYPD. It is not clear if it was the same U.S. Marshal who was bitten.

At least one U.S. Marshal was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

One person was taken into custody.
