Jersey City Businesses Gear Up For Super Bowl Week

JERSEY CITY, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- With the Super Bowl rapidly approaching, local businesses are gearing up for a busy and hopefully prosperous week.

As WCBS 880's Jim Smith reported Saturday, security has begun to ramp up with mobile police towers put in place outside the front of the Jersey City Hyatt, which is now decorated with a large image of Peyton Manning.

Local businesses are also getting in on the Super Bowl action.

Nick Giakoumatos told Smith he couldn't believe his 3-year-old restaurant, City Diner, would get to be at the heart of Super Bowl week. "I was shocked. I was amazed. I was ecstatic."

The restaurant is located just around the corner from the temporary home of the Denver Broncos, Smith reported.

"We've got our shifts going around the clock, we have extra manpower on in the morning, extra manpower on at night," Giakoumatos said. "We definitely plan to be open way past midnight during the Super Bowl season, absolutely."

Giakoumatos said he's even hoping maybe a player or two stops in. "I hope so, I don't see why they wouldn't, I mean we're right across the street."
