Mets Re-Sign Lefty Reliever Jerry Blevins

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The Mets have re-signed left-handed relief pitcher Jerry Blevins.

It's a one-year, $4 million deal. Blevins can earn an additional $1 million in performance bonuses. He will make $150,000 each if he reaches 40 and 45 appearances, and $200,000 for 50 appearances. If he pitches in 55 and then 60 games, he'll earn another $250,000 apiece.

The 32-year-old was traded from the Nationals to the Mets on March 30 for outfielder Matt den Dekker.

He started the season off brilliantly, tossing five scoreless innings in seven appearances. He didn't allow a walk or a hit.

On April 19, the veteran was hit by a comebacker. He suffered a distal radius fracture of the left arm and was placed on the disabled list.

Later in the year, as he inched closer to a return, Blevins was the recipient of some more bad luck. In early August, in a freak accident, he slipped on a curb and re-fractured his arm. The injury ended Blevins' season for good.

Blevins joins a bullpen that currently includes Sean Gilmartin, Josh Edgin -- who is coming off Tommy John surgery -- Erik Goeddel, Hansel Robles, Addison Reed and shutdown closer Jeurys Familia.

On Monday, the Mets signed reliever Buddy Carlyle to a minor league contract.
