Reports: Ex-Jet Kerley To Sign With Lions

DETROIT (CBSNewYork) -- Jeremy Kerley is reportedly now a Detroit Lion.

The former Jets wide receiver has agreed to terms with Detroit on a one-year contract, according to multiple reports.

New York released the five-year veteran earlier this month. The move saved the team $1.3 million against the salary cap.

Kerley's role in the Jets' offense shrunk last year under new offensive coordinator Chan Gailey. Kerley caught just 16 passes for 152 yards and two touchdowns in 2015.

The Jets drafted Kerley, now 27, in the fifth round of the 2011 draft.

In Detroit, he is expected to compete for the No. 3 receiver spot behind Golden Tate and Marvin Jones. The franchise's all-time leading receiver, Calvin Johnson, announced his retirement earlier this month.
