James Benedict, 67, Struck, Killed By Car While Walking In Staten Island Bike Lane

NEW YORK (AP) -- A 67-year-old pedestrian has been struck and killed by a car in Staten Island.

Police say James Benedict, of Staten Island, was walking in the bicycle lane on Lily Pond Avenue just before 7 p.m. Sunday when he was struck by a Lexus driven by a 39-year-old driver.

Police say Benedict was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The driver of the Lexus was taken into custody at the scene.

The investigation is continuing.
