50 Mystery Murals Pop Up In Long Island Town

ISLIP, N.Y. (CBSNewYork)-- Small murals have been popping up in the town of Islip and people are happy about it.

One of the colorful murals was placed on Main Street in Islip, WCBS 880's Sophia Hall reported.

The artistic style is called Eight-Bit and the murals depict popular videos games and cartoon characters. They've been popping up all over the town since 2014.

Lori Zegel owns Nook and Cranny store where a mural is outside the door.

"And then I find out that it was a local artist trying to get people into the community and I thought that's a great idea because now kids are not walking and looking down at their phones. They are looking up at the walls and the families can see something like this," she said.

A Facebook page has been created showing where the murals are located. So far 50 murals have been located through the town.
