Interview: Alliance For Lupus Walk Heads To NYC

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Pop star Selena Gomez made headlines this week when she told Billboard Magazine she has lupus.

Gomez said she went through chemotherapy to help treat it and is currently in remission.

The former "Wizards of Waverly Place" actress is one of 1.5 million Americans with the autoimmune disease.

The Alliance for Lupus Research has been working on a cure since 1999, and has a big event coming up in New York City next weekend.

The organization's president, Ken Farber, stopped by the CBS2 studio on Saturday to talk about the Alliance for Lupus Walk taking place on Oct. 17.
