Suffolk County Police Officers Save Infant With Hand Stuck In Drain

SHIRLEY, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Suffolk County authorities came to the rescue after a 1-year-old girl got her hand stuck in a drain at a home in Shirley.

Four Suffolk County Police Emergency Service Section officers rushed to the home on Rowlinson Drive after receiving a 911 call at around 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, police said.

Responders worked for around 20 minutes to remove a part of the bathtub that was stuck to the child's hand, police said.

The girl was then transported to Stony Brook University Hospital, where authorities say doctors worked for several hours to separate the remaining piece of bathtub from the infant's hand.

"From what we know the baby is doing very well, her hand, when it came out, looked perfect --not even a cut on her hand," Sgt. Ryan Sefton told WCBS 880's Sophia Hall. "Also did a great job getting her out and protecting her fingers."

The baby is reported to make a full recovery.
