Indictment Alleges 4 Edison Officers Planned Retaliation Against Cop

EDISON, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Four officers with the Edison Police Department have been indicted for allegedly conspiring to retaliate against an officer from a different police department after he arrested an Edison officer's relative for alleged drunken driving.

According to the indictment recently handed up by a Middlesex County grand jury, the officers are accused of improperly accessing information about the North Brunswick officer in early 2012. They also allegedly performed surveillance on him and his travel habits.

However, no actual retaliation occurred, according to prosecutors.

Among other individual counts, the officers -- Michael Dotro, Victor Aravena, William Gesell and Brian Favretto -- all face conspiracy and official misconduct charges.

They have all been suspended without pay, and it was not known Sunday if any of them have retained an attorney.
