Expert: Info Shared On Social Media Could Lead To Identity Theft

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Stop before you post that picture of your Mother's Day brunch, an expert on identity theft warns.

"People seem to have this unquenchable thirst to tell everybody everything about everyone," said Adam Levin, founder of Identity Theft 911, a company that investigates and protects against identity theft.

"Try not to identify people by age, not by where they live, by their full names," he told WCBS 880's Ginny Kosola.

Levin said to be especially careful about sharing children's information because no one is checking their credit.

Levin said friends and even family members can be thieves.

"They know pretty much everything about you," he said. "They know where you are, what you do, they know the websites you like to visit."
