Icing Causes Problems On Roads In New Jersey

NEWARK, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Thursday's messy winter storm may make for a rough commute for many Friday morning.

In Newark, local lanes closed on Route 78 eastbound between exit 55 and exit 56 due to icy conditions. The ice has already caused several accidents. At one point, delays stretched back 3 miles.

There are also reports of icing on Route 1 and 9.

The speed limit was reduced on the Garden State Parkway Thursday night to 35 miles per hour, where it remains Friday morning.

Road crews are still plowing throughout the state after getting as much as 9 inches of snow in some spots.

The National Weather Service measured 9 inches in Brick Township. There was 81/2 inches in Carteret and Manalapan. Eight inches fell in Hopewell and Pitman and little more than 7 inches covered the ground in Estell Manor.
