Target Truck Catches Fire, Shuts Down Southbound I-287 In N.J.

OAKLAND, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- A semi-trailer truck caught fire and shut down southbound Interstate 287 in Bergen County, New Jersey Thursday afternoon.

The truck for Target stores slammed into the guardrail and caught fire late Thursday afternoon in the borough of Oakland, Joe Biermann reported from Chopper 2.

CHECK: Traffic

The southbound lanes of the expressway were shut down at 4 p.m., and monumental traffic delays ensured, Biermann reported.

Southbound 287 was bumper-to-bumper for eight miles from the scene, Biermann reported.

The northbound side was not much better, with a gapers block going back five miles, Biermann reported.

Early Thursday evening, crews were clearing out of the back of the truck to make sure the fire was completely out.

Further details about the accident were not immediately available.
