Power Restored After 17,000 Customers Experience Outages In Hudson County

JERSEY CITY, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- Power was back after an estimated 17,000 customers experienced an outage in Hudson County, New Jersey Wednesday evening.

PSE&G reported outages were primarily seen in Union City and West New York. Circuit damage was to blame.

The number totaled 17,000 as of around 8 p.m., but had been reduced to 10,000 by 9:30 p.m.

By 10:15 p.m. power had been restored to all customers, PSE&G said.

As CBS2 reported, many residents spent the evening on their front porches and stoops with flashlights to beat the heat inside their homes.

"It's not cold, I mean we have music down the block, our family, we had to order pizza because we can't cook, but other than that just waiting," one woman said.

PSE&G blamed the outage on a circuit that was damaged at a Jersey City substation.
