NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – Passwords should ideally be 14-25 characters in length with a mix of capital and lowercase letters, numbers and symbols and you should never use the same one twice, 1010 WINS' John Montone reported.
But Charles from Montclair says he's guilty of doubling up.
"It's hard when you have to create passwords for every single thing," he said.
Tony from Staten Island told Montone he uses only two passwords for all of his accounts—even his financial ones.
"I'm actually considering getting off online banking because I'm afraid of this. I'm thinking of going back to the old style and back to the bank whenever I have to do deposits or withdrawals," he said. "It's the safest way to go now."
Jasmine from East Brunswick says she may have come up with the best password, but she uses it for every account because she has trouble remembering multiple ones.
Jesus from the Bronx writes his passwords down in such a way that he's the only one who can decipher them.
Jesus: "I make different things up that only I would understand what it is."
John Montone: "So in other words, you write your password in a code so it doesn't look like it would online?"
Jesus: "Exactly."
John Montone: "Are you CIA?"
Jesus: (laughing) "No I'm not, but I've learned."
