Home Health Care Aide Accused Of Stealing From People She Was Helping

SEAFORD, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A Long Island home health care aide was charged Wednesday with stealing more than $1,300 from the people for whom she was working.

Nassau County police detectives said Tiffany Douglas, 28, was working for the Islip-based Help at Home company for the residents of a home on Mattituck Avenue in Seaford.

Between Aug. 23 and Aug. 30, Douglas allegedly stole personal checks belonging to the residents, made them out to cash, and deposited the resulting $1,345 into her own bank account, police alleged.

Douglas was arrested around 1:50 p.m. Wednesday and was charged with grand larceny and identity theft, police said.

She was released on an appearance ticket, and was to appear in First District Court in Hempstead on Oct. 8.
