Some Holbrook Residents Fighting Solar Farm Plan

HOLBROOK, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Despite the ecological benefits, some Long Islanders are fighting against a solar farm proposal.

Residents in Holbrook are expected to pack a meeting Wednesday night when the operators behind a plan there try to address their concerns.

Neighbors are expressing health concerns and worry about quality of life, WCBS 880 Long Island Bureau Chief Mike Xirinachs reported.

"You're going to have it at nighttime, too," said Holbrook resident Pete Verity. "They're going to have security lights. There's going to be fences. ... And then the property value -- you know it's going to plummet. It's going to sink."

Meanwhile in Shoreham, a judge has issued a temporary restraining order blocking construction of a controversial solar farm there.
