Pedestrian Struck In Hoboken By Car Allegedly Fleeing Previous Crash

HOBOKEN, N.J. (CBSNewYork) - A pedestrian was hit by a car in Hoboken Tuesday afternoon.

The incident began around 3:40 p.m.

Initial information suggests the car was involved in a crash on Bloomfield Street and 1st.

The car then reportedly drove away on 1st Street before hitting a pedestrian and slamming into a wall on 1st and Hudson.

"You could hear all the crashes because it hit another car on the way down. Everyone started rushing over, the man was laying a quarter way up the block, his clothes were kind of torn... he couldn't seem to move," witness Candice Lee said.

Police say that man will survive, but was seriously injured when he was hit by the vehicle that took off-fleeing the initial crash three blocks away at Bloomfield Street.

"The black Honda behind me left that scene, attempted to flee when it got to Washington Street it appeared... it went on the sidewalk, drove at least one block on the sidewalk," Hoboken chief of police Ken Ferrante explained.

Various streets were closed in the area due to the ongoing police investigation.

Once the car ended its chaotic course, plowing into the wall at Hudson Street, police pulled the driver out and arrested him. Charges are still pending.
