Water Main Replacement Completed After Break In Hoboken

HOBOKEN, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- Crews completed the replacement of a broken water main in Hoboken Friday, following a long and frustrating ordeal that brought floods and cut off service for many.

SUEZ Water emergency crews on Friday finished replacing the broken water main with a 24-inch pipe. Testing was under way late Friday to ensure the stability of the repaired connection.

Some roads in southwest Hoboken will remain closed until temporary road restoration is completed in the areas affected by the water main break. That process is expected to be completed by Sunday night, Hoboken officials said.

Hoboken is still receiving water from a Weehawken transmission line, officials said. Once the stability of the repaired connection is confirmed, the city may switch back to the Jersey City transmission line that was interrupted, officials said.

The water main broke Sunday morning and the 36-inch valve failed Sunday night.
