New York Man Critically Injured After Hit-And-Run On New Jersey Turnpike

NEWARK, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- A New York man was critically injured following a hit-and-run accident on the New Jersey Turnpike.

According to a press release from the New Jersey State Police, Alberto Mendez, 25, was struck while trying to cross the New Jersey Turnpike near milepost 121 in Leonia Boro, Bergen County, at 5 a.m. on Saturday.

The unidentified vehicle fled the scene after hitting Mendez.

The 25-year-old suffered severe head and leg injuries and was transported to Hackensack University Medical Center. He is currently in critical condition.
