New Production Of Hip Hop Nutcracker To Kick Off In Washington Heights

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - A new production is giving a modern spin on a holiday classic.

The Hip Hop Nutcracker will open at the United Palace of Cultural Arts in Washington Heights Saturday.

"As soon as people hear 'Hip Hop' and 'Nutcracker' strung together, they immediately get it," co-creator Mike Fitelson told WCBS 880's Peter Haskell. "It speaks to a contemporary, urban audience that is looking for something that resembles them."

The show is being performed in 23 cities.
