Highway Patrol Officer Injured In Crash On LIE

LAKE RONKONKOMA, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A police officer has been injured in an early morning crash on the Long Island Expressway.

It happened at about 4:45 a.m. Monday near Exit 60 in Lake Ronkonkoma. Eastbound lanes in the area were closed while authorities investigated.

Highway Patrol Bureau Officer Arthur Hull was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital with neck and back pain, police said.

The officer was in the area to direct traffic at a construction site overnight when a tractor-trailer struck his patrol car, police said.

The tractor trailer underwent a safety inspection after the accident.
