HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A man has been arrested after his aunt was found stabbed to death in her Long Island home.

Police said they were called to a home on Harvard Street around 9 p.m. Tuesday.

When officers arrived on the scene, they found 59-year-old Taracker McClendon stabbed to death in an upstairs room, police said.

Her nephew, 24-year-old Kevin Pratt, was allegedly holding a blood-stained knife and was taken into custody, 1010 WINS' Carol D'Auria reported. Police said he is charged with second-degree murder.

A neighbor called the death tragic, but said the nephew was a problem.

"Police had been there in the past over him, I can't really say what he's into but I know that he's like a little off," the neighbor said, adding that the the victim was a nice woman who lived with her large family in the house for many years.

Police said there is a history of domestic disturbance calls to the home.
