Hempstead High School Extends Invitation To Nicki Minaj, News Release Says

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – Despite Nicki Minaj allegedly being told she couldn't visit her alma mater to speak to students, another New York high school said they'll take her.

According to a news release, Hempstead Board of Education President Lamont Johnson has no qualms about Minaj visiting Hempstead High School.

"Hempstead School District, which has had some recent hardships, feels it would be a boost to their students," the release reads.

Johnson has sent a letter to Minaj regarding the offer, WCBS 880's Monica Miller reported.

"We've been on the news, we've been in the media almost every day recently. We have several challenges and I want our children to believe and to feel that they have a chance," Johnson told 1010 WINS.

Johnson said he is confident Minaj will accept his invitation.

"I think we have a very good chance. I think she's a person that's shown that she didn't forget where she's from and I think Hempstead schools are similar to the area that she came from," he said.

On Friday, Minaj took to Twitter, claiming her offer to visit LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts was turned down.

Her fans also flooded social media with their reactions, voicing their opinions.
