Woman, 57, Struck And Killed By Box Truck In Hell's Kitchen

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A woman was struck and killed by a box truck in Hell's Kitchen late Friday afternoon, police said.

Police were called at 4:52 p.m. to 39th Street and Tenth Avenue, and found the 57-year-old woman unconscious and unresponsive at the scene, police said.

The woman was rushed to Bellevue Hospital Center, where she was pronounced dead, police said.

Police learned the woman had been walking south on Tenth Avenue and was crossing 39th Street, when she was struck by a box truck that was headed north on Tenth and was turning left onto 39th.

The driver, a 28-year-old man, remained on the scene, police said.

The driver was taken into custody at the scene at 7:13 p.m. and was cited with failure to yield to a pedestrian, failure to exercise due care, and failure to adhere to highway law, police said.

The NYPD Collision Investigation Squad was investigating the accident late Friday.

The identity of the woman who died was being withheld pending family notification Friday evening.
