Heavy Rain Causes Flooding, Danger On Roads In Newark

NEWARK, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- Only light rain was seen in much of the Tri-State Area on Tuesday, but a hovering weather system brought floods and created a dangerous situation in Newark.

Flooding was reported along McCarter Highway and ramps on Interstate 280 in Newark. At one site, floodwaters lifted a manhole cover Tuesday evening – and a driver didn't see the open hole and plowed right into it.

There were no reports of injuries.

The stormy weather was not limited to rain. Farther south in Brick, New Jersey, hail pelted lawns, cars and driveways earlier Tuesday.
