NYPD Cop Who Was Attacked With Hatchet In ISIS-Inspired Attack Back On Duty

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - Officer Kenneth Healey, who was attacked by a man wielding a hatchet in October 2014, is back on the job.

Healey is back in uniform at the 103rd Precinct and is limited to desk duty.

Healey, a rookie at the time of the incident, suffered a skull fracture when he was attacked by what police said was a "lone wolf" terrorist.

Healey was posing for a photo with a group of uniformed officers on Jamaica Avenue and 162nd Street on Oct. 23 when Zale Thompson rushed at the group with a hatchet, hitting Healey. Another officer shot and killed Thompson.

Thompson was a convert to Islam who had been visiting websites affiliated with terror groups. Police believe he was self-radicalized.
