Second Suspect In Shooting Death Of Paterson Teen Pleads Not Guilty
PATERSON, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A man charged in connection with the shooting death of a high school basketball star in northern New Jersey pleaded not guilty Wednesday.
Hasmeek Coles, of Paterson, was silent as his public defender entered the not guilty pleas on one count of murder, three counts of attempted murder and one count of receiving stolen property, according to The Record.
Coles' bail was kept at $2 million.
The 20-year-old was arrested on Friday, just one day after 20-year-old Gregory Oliver, also of Paterson, pleaded not guilty to murder, attempted murder and weapons charges.
The pair are accused of gunning down 15-year-old Armoni Sexton during a drive-by shooting in the city that injured three others on April 18.
According to police, the shooting happened around 8:30 p.m. in the vicinity of Rosa Parks Boulevard and Godwin Avenue.
Authorities said the victims were standing near a liquor store when a burst of gunfire came from a vehicle that quickly fled the scene.
Sexton was a top scorer and rebounder at the Paterson Charter School for Science for Science and Technology.
