Suspect Charged In Stabbing That Left Man Dead In Subway In Harlem
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A man was arrested and charged Tuesday in a stabbing that left a man dead in a Harlem subway station.
Julio Velazquez, 48, was charged with murder and criminal possession of a weapon in the incident on Wednesday, March 16, police said.
who they said At 8:55 p.m. that evening, investigators said the victim – identified as Herbert Burgess, 53 – was selling MetroCard swipes to a woman at the 116th Street and Lenox Avenue subway station.
The woman apparently changed her mind, but police said the man grabbed a dollar from her anyway, allegedly punching her in the face. That's when police said her male companion pulled a knife, stabbing the man at least once near the turnstiles.
For whatever reason, the victim got onto downtown No. 2 train, but collapsed after one stop at the Central Park North-110th Street station.
Medics rushed Burgess out of subway with at a stab wound to his abdomen. But by the time he got to Saint Luke's Hospital, he was pronounced dead, police said.
