1,000 Customers Lose Power When Transformer Catches Fire In Hackensack

HACKENSACK, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- An electrical transformer caught fire and cut power to 1,000 customers in Hackensack, New Jersey Thursday evening.

The fire broke out in a pole-mounted transformer at Voorhis Lane and Johnson Avenue around 6:30 p.m. as a result of heat stress on the equipment, PSE&G told CBS2.

The fire caused about 1,000 customer outages, PSE&G said.

Their power was restored by 7:30 p.m., PSE&G said.
