Employee Finds Grenade At Recycling Center On Long Island

WEST BABYLON, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- An employee at Omni Recycling on Long Island found a grenade with a note attached on Saturday morning.

The worker quickly notified his manager, Brian Nohs.

"I came around, I saw it and I called the police," he told WCBS 880's Sophia Hall. "People could have been killed. God forbid if it had gone up on the system and something hit it and knocked the pin out, people would have been killed."

Nohs said the note read, "If you can't fix my Mercedes," then line underneath was blurred.

"I can't read it," he said.

Nohs said the note was glued and wired to the grenade.

Police were called and detonated the grenade. They are investigating how it got into the recycling center.
