Pedestrian Safety A Top Priority For Westchester County Town

GREENBURGH N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Following a fatal hit-and-run accident last year, pedestrian safety has become a top priority for Greenburgh Town Supervisor Paul Feiner.

Feiner received 75 reflective armbands from the Automobile Club of New York. He gave them away for free, but police have ordered more.

"A lot of motorists are now distracted with iPhones, they're texting even thought they're not supposed to so it's even more dangerous for pedestrians than it was years ago," he tells WCBS 880's Sean Adams.

Feiner says since distributing the armbands, he's heard from other towns in the area who are also interested in equipping pedestrians with reflective gear.

The town is also working towards building more sidewalks, says Feiner.
