Drivers Face Grand Central Parkway Gridlock As Passengers Flood LaGuardia Airport

NEW YORK(CBSNewYork) -- Drivers were stuck on the Grand Central Parkway for up to five hours on Monday night, as passengers flooded LaGuardia Airport.

The gridlock forced some to get out of their cars and walk along the highway. The roads leading out of LaGuardia were just as bad.

Hundreds and hundreds of passengers were seen walking away from the airport late Monday night, with the airport's internal roadways and the surrounding areas stuck in gridlock, CBS2's Joe Bierman reported.

Some fliers posted pictures to social media saying they had waited up to four hours just to exit.

The gridlock was believed to be a result of people flying in and out of LaGuardia following a weekend of blizzard related cancellations.
