Fire Engulfs School Bus On Grand Central Parkway; No Injuries Reported

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A school bus was engulfed in flames Tuesday evening on the Grand Central Parkway in Queens.

There were no passengers on board the bus when the fire broke out, and there are no reported injuries, CBS2's Joe Biermann reported from Chopper 2.

The driver of the bus was able to escape unharmed, CBS2 reported.

The full-sized bus is located on the westbound side of the parkway coming out of Kew Gardens and just west of the Jackie Robinson Parkway.

Firefighters were on the scene trying to put out the flames around 5:15 p.m.

The westbound side of the Grand Central Parkway is shut down. Biermann advised motorists to avoid the parkway in both directions.

There is no word yet on what caused the fire.
