Hochul touts progress tackling illegal guns

ALBANY, N.Y. -- Gov. Kathy Hochul says New York is making progress in the battle against illegal guns.

The governor says state police saw a 104% increase in gun seizures over the last year.

"We're starting to turn the corner and make real progress in getting these guns off the streets, and we're delivering on that promise to focus on this, but we still have a long way to go," Hochul announced Thursday. "These are not guns manufactured in the state of New York, so clearly they're coming from somewhere else, they're coming from another state."

She said state police have, so far, seized more than 800 illegal guns.

She also plans to invite the federal head of ATF to have a conversation about dealing with illegal guns.
