Gov. Christie Wants To Halt Cuba Diplomatic Relations Until Cop Killer Is Extradited

TRENTON, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- Gov. Chris Christie says President Obama should not restore diplomatic ties with Cuba until the nation returns a convicted cop killer.

Joanne Chesimard was found guilty and sentenced to life in prison for the 1973 murder of a New Jersey State Trooper, CBS2 reported.

But Chesimard escaped from prison and fled to Cuba, where she was granted asylum.

Christie sent a letter to the White House, saying Cuba providing safe harbor of Chesimard is an affront to everyone in New Jersey.
