SPCA: 3 Goats Beheaded, Dumped In Riverhead Preserve

RIVERHEAD, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- The Suffolk County Society for the Protection of Cruelty to Animals is investigating a possible "ritualistic killing" after three goats were found beheaded and dumped on Long Island.

The gruesome discovery was made at the Otis Pike Preserve on Line Road in Riverhead.

SPCA Chief Roy Gross said it looks like the remains were dumped at the site.

"We do not believe that this incident occurred at that location, it looks like it was done at another location and the remains were dumped there," Gross told 1010 WINS. "They either tossed it out of the window of a car or stopped and just threw it out, it was just a matter of maybe five or six feet off the road."

Fresh fruits and vegetables were also found dumped near the remains, Gross said.

The SPCA is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction in the case.

Anyone with information can call the Suffolk County SPCA at 631-382-7722.
