Woman With Excessive Bleeding Found With Dead Baby In Glen Head

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A newborn baby was found in a backyard on Long Island.

Nassau County homicide squad was investigating the death of a newborn child, CBS2's Ali Bauman reported.

Police said just after 8 a.m. they responded to a call for someone in need of medical assistance at 4 Walnut Street in Glen Head.

"Upon their arrival they found approximately 20-year-old female with excessive vaginal bleeding. That female was transported to a local hospital," Detective Captain John Azzata said.

Investigators said doctors performed a medical exam on the woman.

"The ER doctor determined there was a pregnancy involved," Azzata said.

Investigators came back to the scene and said they are now looking into the death of a newborn child. An autopsy was being performed to determine if the baby was born alive or still born.
