Nassau County police said just after 8 a.m. Thursday, they responded to a call for someone in need of medical assistance at 4 Walnut St. in Glen Head.

Police said they found a 20-year-old woman at the scene with excessive vaginal bleeding, and she was taken to an area hospital where it was determined that she had recently given birth.

Officers were sent back to the home, where they found the newborn baby girl unresponsive in a plastic bag, according to the Associated Press. The baby was taken to an area hospital and was pronounced dead, police said.
