Long Island Woman Arraigned On Murder Charge In Death Of Newborn

GLEN HEAD, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A Long Island woman was arraigned Saturday in connection with the death of her newborn baby.

Sharon Seudat, 20, is being held on $1 million bond. She was arrested Friday in Glen Head and charged with second-degree murder, police said.

Nassau County Detective Captain John Azzata said officers had been called to her home on Thursday morning and found Sedaut bleeding profusely.

He said a doctor later realized she had given birth. Police said Seudat, who hid the pregnancy from her parents, initially denied giving birth.

Investigators found the baby's lifeless body in black plastic bag at the home. Azzata said the child was born alive and was suffocated.

Newsday reports that several of Seudat's family members appeared in court but they declined to comment.
