Giuliani, NYC Leaders Push Congress To Confirm Loretta Lynch As Attorney General
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - Several current and former New York City leaders pushed Congress Friday to confirm U.S. Attorney Loretta Lynch as attorney general.
It appears Lynch's nomination will be held up for another three weeks, WCBS 880 reported.
As WCBS 880's Marla Diamond reported, former mayor Rudy Giuliani has recently been very critical of the president, but said he is constitutionally entitled to his choice of attorney general.
"If we want to restore the original intent of Alexander Hamilton and the framers of the Constitution, then Loretta Lynch is more than qualified," Giuliani said.
The former mayor joined with law enforcement officials, including former FBI director Louie Freeh, in calling for an end to the politics holding up the nomination.
"Delaying the nomination creates a lot of distress in the department and I'm hopeful that the senators give her a strong vote of confirmation," Freeh said.
Neither believe Lynch's race has anything to do with the delay.
