Bronx Girl Rescued After Falling Into Hole Beneath Snow Near St. Mary's Houses

NEW YORK(CBSNewYork) -- A little girl in the Bronx was rescued after falling in a deep hole hidden beneath the snow.

It happened on Saturday near the St. Mary's Houses in Mott Haven.

Kalima Crawfrd, 6, was walking with her mother when she fell into the hole. She was able to grab onto pipes to keep from falling down further.

Kalima suffered from some cuts and lacerations, but was otherwise okay.

"We were walking through the pathway on the side of my building and all of a sudden my daughter just disappeared. She fell through a hole and my immediate reaction was to jump in after her. I heard her yelling, 'mommy help, mommy help me,'" Sharon Burrell said.

The family has begun the process of filing a suit against the city.
