Giants Mourn Death Of Jojo Nicolas, Who Briefly Played For Big Blue

CORAL GABLES, Fla. (CBSNewYork/AP) — The University of Miami and the Giants are mourning the loss of one of their former football players.

Former Hurricanes defensive back Jojo Nicolas died Wednesday after getting into a car crash early Tuesday on a Miami Beach highway.

Nicolas played for the Hurricanes from 2007 to 2011, when he graduated. He signed as an undrafted free agent with the New York Giants in 2012. He ended up being released late in training camp.

In a statement, Miami Athletic Director Blake James said Nicolas "will forever be a part of the U."

Football coach Al Golden said that everyone who knew, coached and played alongside Nicolas will forever carry his memory.

Police say Nicolas was heading away from South Beach when his car rear-ended a tractor-trailer. Nicolas had been celebrating at a club ahead of his March 3 birthday.
